Supreme Release Yoga
SRY- a therapeutic approach to yoga for deep healing & transformation
To reveal the divine being, hidden within…
What is SRY?
SRY stands for Supreme Release Yoga but in Sanskrit Śrī is also a reference to the nurturing and abundant feminine divine.
Supreme Release Yoga is a therapeutic approach to Yoga which focuses on decompressing the spinal muscles in a gentle and accesible way.
SRY is an accesible approach to yoga, through it’s gentle manner of working with specific asana, supported by props, in aligning the body and creating angles which in turn help release the deep muscles along the spine. These are places in our bodies which have been holding tension for a very long time and in the yogic view we store the effects of our experiences in the spinal muscles. Overtime and through repetition, these become deeply embedded patterns which can manifest as physical tension leading to experiencing pain in the body.
SRY takes you on a journey towards Yoga’s supreme purpose, of revealing the truth of the Self .
SRY is an “advanced” form of Yoga as it takes you through your physical and subtle spine, working with Prana* and the Nadis* to open up the pathway for the sacred energy of Kundalini* to move freely and unobstructed. Yoga is a journey which takes you from the physical realm into the subtle one, revealing the truth of existence and the inter-connectedness of us all. It takes you on a sacred pilgrimage within to discover the truth of your divine nature, and along the way resolving and releasing long held patterns in the physical body.
*Prana - intelligent, vital life force
*Nadis - energetc channels which run through your body, spine and are connected to your brain.
*Kundalini - sacred energy of universal consciusness which leads to wisdom and awakening
How does it work?
In SRY we use asana, pranayama, mantra, contemplation and reflection to go deeply inwards. It nourishes and holds you safely so that you can partake in a process of releasing and letting go of long held patterns in the physical and subtle body. The props offer support while aligning the body ina way that protect joints and prevent overstretching, cultivating a parasympathetic nervous system response. SRY supports a process of surrender and letting go of physical tension, mental tension, emotional tension with the purpose of settling the mind as the main reason for healing, transformation and awareness.
In this practice there is no effort and striving, we are not pushing past boundaries, we stop at the juncture and we go through a revelatory experience. Here we are doing what is right, over what is liked, simultaneously being loving and kind. We do not push past transformation and healing, and the poses angle into releasing tension and blockages.
SRY reveals deep, hidden and painful conditioning tracing back to the past, which keep us stuck in spiralling patterns and obstruct our view and experiences.
Who is it for?
In life we have our particular ways of reacting and responding to situations and circumstance, and the more we do it, the deeper embedded these tendencies remain and they reflect in the body, the physical and the subtle. For people that experience anxiety for example, there will be a lot of gripping and tension in the pelvis and the lower part of the spine which will have an effect on the whole spine. When having hypermobility tendencies, the ligaments and the tendons get overstreched, which results in the muscles alongside the spine responding by gripping and holding on tightly. For people experiencing chronic pain, there will be overall tension and gripping in the muscles of the spine.
In the subtle body, from a yogic perspective, because of the gripping, tension and inability to let go we obstruct the energies from flowing freely.
This approach to yoga is for you if there is:
inability to relax and let go
fear, worry and a restless mind
experience of pain in the body
hypermobility in the joints
anxiety, overwhelm, stress
