Wisdom for Life
OM
Welcome! I hope my words will tickle your senses. With this blog, my intention is to create awareness and cultivate a sense of belonging into Manifestation for anyone reading this, and share with you about the Yogic process of Self-Discovery from the way I learned and experienced through the guidance of my own ancestors, lineage, teachers and guides in the hope that I can be of service to you and nudge you towards where you are meant to be right now. This blog is all about the wisdom we gain when we begin to align our rhythms with the rhythms of Cosmic Manifestation and transform all aspects life into sādhanā.
Sādhanā साधना
“A sanskrit root whose word, sādh, means to reclaim that which is divine in us, our power to heal, serve, rejoice, and uplift spirit. Sādhanā practices encompass all our daily activities, from the simple to the sublime. The goal of sādhanā is to enable you to recover your natural rhythms and realign your life and daily habits with the cycles of the Universe. When you begin to live and move with the rhythms of Nature, your mind becomes more lucid and more peaceful and your health improves. Your entire life becomes easier.” MAYA TIWARI
I had many intentions of who I should become and what I want to do but as the years passed by I realised that my main intention is to become good at living. Life is twisted and dare I say perverted at some junctures, but the more you focus your energy on better living, the more adaptable you become and you find steadier anchors when life needs to twist you around. What I was looking for when I reached rock bottom was a way out, and since it wasn’t the first rock bottom I encoutered I knew that this time the way out needs to be different. I wanted to stop forcing, I wanted a way out that can lead me out to absolute freedom.
I say that life needs to twist you around, because of the concept of Karma. It’s not that it wants to bring you joy or make you suffer intentionally, it’s just that it has to so that you align with your natural rhythm and use your patterns beneficially.
When we perform action we are performing Karma. We are all rather good at it and everything we put out into the world, from thoughts to words to physical actions, intensions, desires and aversions - all of it will create a result, and whether we “enjoy” the result in this lifetime, or whether it is stored for another time, place and life, that is not in our control. What we control is our ACTIONS now.
Results in general also depend on previous actions. Yours, your family’s, your antourage, your whole lineage of who was before you, your whole ancestry. From the big to the little and back to the big. This is Karma, every action will have a result and this is embedded in all Manifestation.
So is everything pre-destined?
Not everything is, but there are certain patterns and tendecies with which we are born in unique and individual bodies. And each of our story is one of a kind, but when you look back on your story you may recognise conditions and experiences that had a common flavour creating repeated actions of the same kind flavour with sometimes results that have the same flavour. When you put too much salt in a soup it will be too salty. And if you put oregano, don’t expect it to taste like basil.
What is not predestined is your actions now. And yes, actions now will shape your future. There will be strings to pull you back into old patterns and life will give you opportunities only to take them away, but life will also give you opportunities to choose right actions, beneficial ones, actions that respect the way the world functions.
Best example is to look at something we do naturally, and out of habit. We sleep when it is night and we are awake when the Sun is out. The beneficial action that respects the world as it functions and the natural rhythms of our bodies is to sleep at night and go on and live and engage during day-time. For some there may be a tendency or repeated pattern of staying awake at night which can be for numerous reasons from health issues to responsabilities at work. The more night sleep one is deprived of the more health issues arise, because the body is not made to sleep when the Sun is out and stay awake when the Moon is out, unless doing in certain circumstances for a pre-determined time. So you may be “pre-destined” to be a night owl, suffer from insomnia or have a job that requires you to do night-shifts. You accept that as it is, and where you come in is what are you going to do about it? It is beneficial overall?
What can you do support yourself in such a way that you don’t end up suffering in the long run?
That is not predestined.
We can fall into patterns and tendencies and give up on action all together and leave it to faith.
OR
We can learn to embrace our unique circumstances, learn about our tendencies, cultivate our capacity to think clearly, listen to nudges, cultivate our intuition and understand how the world works and what is our role here. From the big to the small. With confidence.
Will everything be perfect and linear?
No, it unfolds in patterns, and what can become perfect and somehow linear is your inner attitude towards Life. A constant work in progress but it has many beautiful gifts to offer if you are open to receive.
This draw me to this tradition, the Yogic process of Self Discovery. It’s not just the Yoga asana, that’s the first step only to create connection to the body and then learn to recognise the mind. Ironic how I began my yoga journey with Hatha Yoga, which it is known for being forceful in a period when I wanted to let go of the effort that I used to push myself through life. Yoga asana and Pranayama with all its approaches, lineages and traditions is valid because it all has the same goal - to discover who you truly are beneath all of it while sitting comfortable and unperturbed. My journey was one which began in a very physical way, which had is pitt-falls and its blessings, but it is bringing me closer to my goal of living a steady and easeful life, aligned with my own rhythms and history, learning valuable lessons along the way.
Without Ayurveda we wouldn’t understand how our bodies are interconnected with energies that dwell everywhere in the manifest world. This is the first step into learning about our tendencies and patterns, the “pre-destined aspects” of your life and the energies which will influence the actions you take now. When you know about the underlying principles you may choose differently, so right there you create an action which is now not part of a repetitive pattern which might have brought pain before. As you continue to cultivate your capacities, more is revealed. This is the Yogic process of revealing who you truly are.
And then there is the Knowledge of Light, Jyotisha or Vedic Astrology which offers a beautiful complete picture of the way life will have a tendency to unfold before you. This is your karmic pattern or your karmic blue-print. Blue because it’s all written in the sky…
“The pain and joy you will experience in this lifetime is encoded in your body, and in the earth, and in the stars, at the time of your birth. It is karma which takes each individual down their path in life.”
The Devi Bhagavatam
This is what this blog is all about, gaining wisdom from Life, to become better at living, turning mundane life into a life of sādhanā. I hope you stick around for Cosmic musings, from the big to the small.
“Churn the milk of the mind, yourself the churner
Locate the Primal Point and Sound,
break it down with meditation.
Heat the butter of knowledge
Spirituality empowered, you will find the ghee
”With these ingredients, a yagna I perform”
Offering the oblation of my own limbs.
The flames that rise are your own effulgence
In them my essence revealed,
I stand as myself, finally.
~ Rupa Bhavani (1625-1721)”
